HARRISBURG – State funding has been awarded to Jim Thorpe Borough for developing an improvement plan for its municipal park, according to Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon), who played a key role in securing the grant through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
The borough will use the $25,000 grant toward the preparation of a master site development plan for Memorial Park.
“Memorial Park is an important asset to the community, but it is in need of repairs and upgrading,” said Heffley. “Before the borough begins any work on the facility, it has to determine what needs to be done, thus the need for the master site plan. The park is an integral part of the community, and it is important to citizens and visitors alike to provide a safe modern facility for all to enjoy.”
DCNR awarded a total of $50 million for 280 projects across Pennsylvania that will create new recreational opportunities, conserve natural resources and help revitalize local communities.
