Heffley, Yudichak, Argall Announce Grant for Intersection Projects in Carbon County
4/22/2022
HARRISBURG – Two intersection projects in Carbon County today were awarded $2.4 million in Multimodal Transportation Funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), according to Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon), Sen. John Yudichak (I-Luzerne/Carbon) and Sen. David Argall (R-Berks/Schuylkill).

Phase III Environmental, LLC will use the grant to construct a right-in/right-out intersection along Route 248 and a lighted intersection along Delaware Avenue at the future Palmerton Business Park in Palmerton.

“It is great to see this funding come back to Carbon County as an investment in our infrastructure and local economy,” Heffley said. “The grant will go toward construction of access points that will keep truck traffic off borough streets. It has been many years since this property was productive, and it now has the potential to become a major job creator for the region as the project progresses.”

“Investing in and improving our transportation infrastructure will always create economic growth opportunities,” said Yudichak. “The funding announced today to improve the infrastructure around the proposed Palmerton Business Park will help to continue this project, which is anticipated to create more than 3,000 jobs once completed.”

“I’m thankful this highly competitive state funding was awarded to support improvements to two intersections in Palmerton,” Argall added. “These important projects will help to ensure the smooth flow of traffic for local drivers and future employers and improve road safety.”

Grant awards are based on such criteria as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth.
