Heffley: Democrats Keep Pushing Aggressive Spend Agenda at the Expense of Pennsylvania Families
HARRISBURG – On the heels of a non-negotiated Tax Code bill passing the House earlier this week, Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) issued the following statement regarding the bill, which doubles as a spending wish list for House Democrats:
“Yesterday, the Democrats ran a Tax Code bill that increases taxes on working families. Instead of both sides coming together in agreement, this non-negotiated bill rewards certain segments of the population at the cost of others, including giving special privileges for marijuana growers, the city of Reading and the movie industry. We could be working on property tax relief, but instead Democrats think it is more prudent to divert $300 million from our state income tax collections to fund mass transit. This bill is nothing but a special interest cornucopia.
“We are over 90 days into our fiscal year and still do not have a budget. This bill does nothing to complete the budget process – but what it does do is further extend the impasse and jeopardizes hospitals, 911 centers, tobacco settlement funding and community college funding increases.”
“I, along with my House Republicans colleagues, have been focused on lowering costs for Pennsylvanians. This legislation is an irresponsible way to manage state finances.”
Despite Heffey’s “no” vote,
House Bill 1219 passed the House of Representatives 102-101 and is headed to the Senate for consideration.
