Heffley Demands Answers on Delayed Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Payments
HARRISBURG – Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) today
issued a letter to Pennsylvania Department of Revenue concerning the delayed payments of property tax/rent rebate checks, some of which are overdue by months.
“Individuals applying for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) Program count on these checks coming in a timely manner, but I’m hearing from individuals I represent that they have been waiting months to even hear if their application has been approved, let along receive a payment,” Heffley said. “And if this is happening in Carbon County, it’s almost a guarantee that others are experiencing this across the Commonwealth.”
PTRR benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. Heffley is especially concerned about how the program will be handled next year when expanded income limits are expected to increase the number of applicants by 150,000.
In his letter, in which Gov. Josh Shapiro’s office also received a copy, Heffley is asking the department to provide information on the oldest application being processed; how many applications were submitted and approved; and the average time it takes to approve an application.
