Heffley, Knowles Visit the White House
October 18, 2017
HARRISBURG – To advocate for community concerns and enhance cooperation between local, state and federal governments, Reps. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) and Jerry Knowles (R- Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) visited the White House on Oct. 12 and attended the Pennsylvania House of Representatives White House Conference.
The conference was organized by the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, with the intent to develop a working relationship between the White House, federal agencies and Pennsylvania state House members.
“It was truly an honor to visit the White House and I am very impressed by the administration’s determination to change the way Washington, D.C. operates. The administration is seeking input from Pennsylvania legislators on how to grow our state’s economy,” said Heffley. “This is a refreshing change from the top-down approach of the past.”
“This was a unique opportunity to talk with high-level members of the president’s administration and establish contacts we didn’t have before,” Knowles said. “President Donald Trump realizes the importance of working with state and local officials and he understands the process. We talked about a number of timely issues the administration is working on, including tax reform.”
As part of the trip, the legislators toured the White House and attended a five-hour conference with top administration officials. The conference discussions covered a broad range of topics including the economy, health care, energy, opioids and how federal regulations can hinder local economic development. A bipartisan delegation of over 60 legislators from across the state attended the conference.
